Soulard/Benton Park
Soulard: “Friendly, great food and drink, patio drinking, dive-bar hopping, live music, sports, Mardi Gras, gorgeous apartments, bars on every corner, basically the best of everything”
Benton Park: “Not as crazy or expensive as Soulard--we've got historic homes, parks, fun 5Ks and summer music fests.”
Favorite restaurants/cafés: Hammerstones, Chava’s, Molly’s, Benton Park Café, La Vallesana, Jax Café, Blues City Deli, Mississippi Mud Cafe
Favorite bars/nightlife: Molly's, McGurks, Hammerstones, 1860, Itap, Venice Cafe, Ernesto's Wine Bar
Favorite outdoor activities: Lafayette square park, Pontiac square park, Mardi Gras Parade, Soulard Farmers Market
Other comments: Soulard is an awesome neighborhood to live in and call home. If you don't end up living here you will for sure come to Soulard on the weekends for the affordable entertainment and nightlife! There is always a special at some bar and it is great on the weekends as you can enjoy the Soulard market or chilling outside and enjoying the smell of the Budweiser brewery. They also just build a new grocery store called Fields Foods in the neighborhood. They have a lot of local and organic food as well as basic needs. They also have a bar that you can get wine or beer from and drink while you're walking around doing your shopping. Soulard is a great neighborhood if you want to be able to walk to dinner, bars, or brunch. There is a lot to do on the weekends but it is also quiet off of the main streets. It's not really a family neighborhood, there are not many kids around. However, there are a lot of people who own their homes who are out and about so it does have a neighborhood feel. The main thing that drew me to Soulard was the beautiful historic homes. Also, there is an all-night donut shop called John Donut.
